Happy Canada Day!!!!
If I am honest this year Guys, this Canada Day feels a bit different… and no it’s not because we need our canoe to get from one event to the other… not because we love this country any more than we did last year.
But Alberta, it’s because I’ve spent the better part of this last year realizing that democracy, public institutions, and even the idea of Canada itself are not guaranteed. They survive only because ordinary people decide they are worth protecting.
I was born in the U.S. I have never kept that from my readers. But Alberta, I CHOSE Alberta over 30 years ago. Canada has become my home, my family, and the place where I built my life.
That’s why I refuse to be silent when I see division replacing unity, ideology replacing evidence, or politics asking us to forget who we truly are.
Loving your country doesn’t mean pretending everything is perfect. Far from it. It means, defending our public healthcare, our democratic institutions, the rule of law, our treaties, and the rights and freedoms that belong to every Canadian from sea to shining sea, not just those who agree with us.
This year, I along with Tami Smith from AB Resistance will be spending it, rain or shine, at Anniversary Park in Chestermere. We will have flags, games, quiz’s, information and good ole conversation. Make sure to pop by and say hello. We have a quiz to see if you can pass the citizenship test for Canada. Let’s see how well you know your Canada.
While out today, remember to be kind, celebrate safely, laugh often, hug people you love and those maybe even more that you don’t. And Guys, let’s remember that this country has always been strongest when we faced challenges together!
Happy Canada Day Everyone!
Forever Canadian. Always Albertan.

Happy Canada Day, Linda! Have a wonderful, inspiring day in this country you're working so hard to better. ❤️🇨🇦❤️
Happy Canada Day, Linda! Yes, this year, within Alberta, our national holiday seems different. It is met with hope and melancholy. Seeing the crowds downtown in YYC on Canada Day, proudly waving the national flag and wearing all kinds of Canada swag, could be seen on the streets. I see hope in the odd corner. But every day I worry more and more. I listen to people who feel powerless, or those who think being silent is their best approach. Being silent does not give hope. If there ever was a time in history to be loud, now is the time. We cannot dismiss this important time. Yes, Canada is not perfect; no country is, but it is imperative to stand up and fight for the things that make our country unique. The things we hold dear to our hearts, like the Canadian Constitution and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The very things that protect all Canadians, regardless of citizenship status. I hope your Canada Day was uplifting. I hope you were able to engage with people who are willing to keep up the good fight. Have a relaxing weekend. ♥
